Call for Abstracts


Conference papers and posters will be scheduled for four days, between 14th and 17th November 2011.

Papers are sought for 20th World Orchid Conference in Singapore, 14th - 23rd November 2011.

The conference is not only an important opportunity for researchers to meet, but also a chance for scientific findings to be disseminated widely to orchid enthusiasts and growers. The organising committee invites participants to submit abstracts for the 20th WOC. Abstract submission opens today and all abstracts must be received by 30th June 2010, Wednesday. Abstracts received after this date will not be accepted.


A. Abstract Submission Topics

  • The conference will have scientific and one horticultural stream and authors submitting abstracts should indicate their preferred stream
  • It is anticipated that Asian orchids will receive some emphasis in this conference, but the committee encourages the submission of articles with reference to all geographical regions and genera without restriction
  • Proposals for symposia comprising sets of papers will be considered
 Topics include but are not limited to:
  • Scientific Interest
    • Taxonomy
    • Ecology
    • Conservation
    • Other Aspects of the Biology of Orchids
  • Horticultural Interest
    • Hybridisation
    • Cultivation and appreciation of orchids (from amateur and commercial perspectives)
*Variation of topics may be considered.

B. Submission of Abstracts

Paper and poster abstracts for the 20th WOC should not exceed 300 words.

  1. Abstracts can only be submitted electronically via the website. Abstracts sent by post or email will not be accepted.
  2. Authors can submit their abstracts via our online form

C. Speakers

Speakers who are presenting their papers should take note of the following points:
  • Papers should not exceed 30 minutes (including 10 minutes for questions)
  • Slides should be digitised for LCD projection
  • 35 mm transparencies is discouraged
  • All speakers and poster presenters will need to register for the 20thWOC

D. Deadline for Submission

  • Submission of abstracts: Available from today
  • Abstracts submission deadline: 30th June 2010, Wednesday
  • Notification of acceptance: Successful applicants will be notified if abstract is chosen as soon as possible after the close of submission

E. Publication

  • All papers and posters should be original
  • Abstracts will be published in a conference booklet
  • Accepted papers and posters summaries will be published in the Proceedings of the 20th World Orchid Conference
  • Authors who wish to reserve a right to publish their papers or related work in scientific periodicals or elsewhere should indicate this during submission of abstracts
