Upcoming Orchid Events

19th Australian Orchid Conference
10 – 16 September 2012

Welcome to the Conference

It is my pleasure to introduce some of the thinking and detail behind the 20th Conference.

As usual, the Conference will run over four days (14th - 17th November inclusive) and will cater for registrants with widely different interests. It will combine what I believe will be a very interesting set of scientific papers in two parallel sessions with a range of general interest presentations in a further session.

There will be no less than 8 plenary speakers, from around the world and regionally, to highlight various key aspects of modern orchid growing, breeding and science. The speakers and their topics are given below. There will also be a number of special and general interest symposia.

There are already over 70 invited speakers in this WOC, but the Conference Organising Committee, wishes to additionally encourage submissions of abstracts from speakers, and not rely entirely on invited speakers to fill the programme. I therefore strongly encourage expressions of interest from speakers, especially younger or less well known ones, who may have work worthy of presentation. A Conference Review Committee has been appointed to evaluate the submitted abstracts, and their names are given below together with the names of the Conference Programme Committee.

Abstracts for papers or posters may be submitted through this website, or you can write to the secretariat for guidance or with questions.

An outline programme is also given below. As speakers are confirmed and the details are filled in, this outline will be fleshed out, and by July 2010 I hope that a final programme will have taken shape.

On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee I would like to extend a very warm invitation to you to join us at this event, which I am certain will be a memorable and exciting one.

Dr. John Elliott

Chairman, Conference Committee
