Joyce Stewart Best Poster Trophy for 20th WOC Poster CompetitionThe WOC Trustees have donated a trophy, the Joyce Stewart Trophy, to be awarded to the best poster presented at the 20th World Orchid Conference in Singapore, this November. The Trophy remembers the late Mrs Joyce Stewart, MBE, VMH who was a WOC Trustee and closely engaged in the preparation for the 20th WOC. The Joyce Stewart Trophy will be crafted by the well-known American glass artist, Larry Mayse.
- Judging Rules:
- Posters will be judged on the basis of a soft copy submitted prior to the Conference by 1 November 2011. The displayed and submitted poster must be the same
- Posters will be judged by two categories of authorship
- Posters by students
- Posters by all other authors not students
- For student posters, the work should be primarily that of one or more students, and the primary author should accordingly be a student registrant. More than one student may co-author a poster, with or without a supervisor
- Posters will receive rosettes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category of exhibitor
- The Joyce Stewart Trophy will be awarded to the best overall poster. It will be presented to the winner at the 20th WOC Closing Ceremony on 16 November 2011
- Judging Criteria
Posters may be scientific or horticultural. Judges will take into account the following factors:
- Extent of new and original contribution in horticulture, science, or in general awareness or orchids
- Difficulty and quality of reported work.
- Clarity of content exposition including the use of figures or tables
- Quality of layout and effectiveness of all visual elements in conveying the message
- The judges' decision will be final.
